Anthony King conducting a workshop
Performing at a concert sponsored by the binational center in Curitiba, Interamericano, to celebrate its 70th Anniversary, Anthony King’s Band had the 500 people in the sold out hall rocking, clapping and singing along to a spectrum of rhythm & blues, funk, soul and rock on Wednesday evening, October 19. Featuring the soulful vocals of eleven time Grammy winner and singer with Santana, Tony Lindsay, the band kept the tempo upbeat with well-remembered hits from Stevie Wonder, Steely Dan, Lou Rawls, Deep Purple and many other singers and bands from the 70s nd 80s.
The next morning, Anthony King conducted a workshop in partnership with the Fundacao Cultural of Curitiba, teaching drumming skills and drills to thirty students from the Popular Music Conservatory in Curitiba in a playful and interactive session full of high quality instruction and advice from an internationally acclaimed artist.
The U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo, in partnership with Bourbon Street Music Club, arranged for the group to participate in InterAmericano’s 70th anniversary festivities and is proud to count them as one of our strongest partners in Curitiba. InterAmericano was one of the first Binational Centers recognized by the U.S. Mission in Brazil. It continues to be a leader in providing the highest quality English language instruction, academic advising, and promotion of U.S. culture, while serving as a key component in the growing U.S. relationship with Brazil.
