On January 14, Consul General Thomas Kelly visited Campinas, Sao Paulo state’s second largest city, where he met with political and business leaders to discuss the growing business relationship between the United States and Brazil. In remarks to the American Chamber of Commerce, CG Kelly emphasized the close economic relationship of our two countries and the group’s critical role in building commercial relations. “Campinas has long been a valuable partner in expanding U.S.-Brazil commercial and educational ties. We look forward to intensifying this relationship for the benefit of both countries,” he stated. CG Kelly highlighted the importance of Campinas as a center of economic progress in Brazil, serving as a critical transportation hub and enjoying one of the country’s concentrations of high tech business. He cited Campinas’ long relationship with U.S. companies as an opportunity to develop even more collaborative ventures with Brazilian businesses. In a meeting with Campinas Mayor Hélio de Oliveira Santos, CG Kelly underscored the important role that Campinas plays in Sao Paulo state’s economy and in fostering closer economic ties with the U.S. In his visit to the FedEx sorting facility at Viracopos Airport, CG Kelly and his FedEx hosts discussed the vital role of infrastructure development in promoting the transport of U.S. and Brazilian goods through South America’s largest cargo airport. CG Kelly also toured the facilities of the Centro Cultural Brasil-Estados Unidos Campinas (CCBEU), emphasizing the United States’ interest in promoting more educational exchanges with Brazil and English language instruction.
