David Kahn, a former Florida state prosecutor and member of the Addiction Services Board of Miami-Dade County, mesmerized 300 students at a Unified Educational Center (CEUS), CEU Aricanduva, speaking on the dangers of drug use and addiction. In the event organized by the São Paulo Municipal Council for Public Policies on Drugs and Alcohol (COMUDA), Dr. Kahn warned the students about the dangers of drug use and advised them to make the right choices in order to become good citizens and key elements in their communities. The students listened with rapt attention and asked good questions ranging from the legalization of marijuana to why the government is not doing enough to combat drug trafficking. The inspiring address was transmitted live to other 48 CEU schools. Watch the video here:

Note: Ceus are public schools created by the Municipal Secretariat of Education of São Paulo located on the city’s outskirts, engaged in providing education to low income student. Today, São Paulo has 48 CEUS with 120 thousand students.
Dr. Kahn also delivered the keynote presentation on the use of drug courts in the U.S. during the "I International Congress on Criminal Issues" held in São Paulo, June 26-28. The U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo, in conjunction with the São Paulo State Prosecutor's School, invited Mr. Kahn to explain to an audience of 80 prosecutors, lawyers, judges and health professionals the drug court program for rehabilitation and reintroducing of former addicts into the community through education, counseling and job training. "Combating chemical dependency is a global issue," said Dr. Kahn. “We need to work together to strengthen drug prevention and intervention programs."
