Mini-Tournament Highlights Shooting Stars Basketball Program

To highlight the official launch of “Shooting Stars” Basketball program which will take place on December 14, over sixty young basketball players took part in a basketball tournament at SESC Consolacao on Saturday, October 22.  Shooting Stars program is a partnership between the U.S. Consulate, SESC and Associacão Alumni to provide a one-year program of instruction in English, basketball and leadership skills to 40 public school students from Sao Paulo.

Cultural Affairs Officer Scott Whitmore took part in the tournament, sharing some moments on the court with the players and encouraging them to sign up for the Shooting Stars program and to invite their friends to sign up.  With a deft touch, Scott engaged the players in play and conversation, stating that “this program would be a great way to broaden your goals and will undoubtedly open new doors for you.”  The activity was organized by SESC Consolação to reinforce the publicity and stir up additional interest on the Shooting Stars Program .
