Speaking at the closing concert of the two week exchange and workshop program with young student musicians from the Guri Project, Juilliard teacher Claire Bryant summed it up best saying “These students are simply amazing and my heart is full from this experience. I hope this program continues for many years to come.” The program is part of the ongoing partnership between the U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo, The Juilliard School and the Sao Paulo State Secretariat of Culture that brings music instructors from Juilliard to work with students and teachers from Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo Tom Jobim (EMESP) and the Guri Project. Similar to last year’s exchange, the U.S. Consulate in Sao Paulo brought five Juilliard musicians to Sao Paulo for two weeks of workshops with young, inner-city musicians from public schools throughout Sao Paulo state. The goal of this partnership is to promote music education for underprivileged students and to form closer ties between U.S. and Brazil via cooperation with key local partners.
