Miss Universe Visits the Consulate
Sao Paulo
Miss Universe 2011, Leila Lopes, at the US Consulate in Sao Paulo
On September 12, Miss Universe 2011 was crowned in Sao Paulo. Two days later, the winner, Leila Lopes from Angola, stopped by the U.S. Consulate to apply for a visa, since many of her activities, appearances at many public and charity events, will take place in the U.S. Miss Lopes explained that she would have the opportunity to bring greater attention to the causes which are dear to her – combating HIV/AIDs, educating and protecting children, and reducing poverty – all issues “which are far too prevalent in [her] continent.” The Consulate was pleased to assist Miss Universe to travel to the U.S. where she will be a spokesperson and role model for her social causes.
