“Never give up on your dreams,” Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Janelle Monáe encouraged the young musicians from the Souza Lima Music Conservatory, who joined Consul General Thomas Kelly to meet Janelle backstage before her performance at Anhembi Stadium Janaury 15. After having the special opportunity to meet the singer up-close-and-personal, the students were given VIP tickets and backstage access for the entire concert, which also included performances by Amy Winehouse and Mayer Hawthorne.  Pop Diplomacy gives students from a variety of local social projects a chance to meet with American artists who are performing in Brazil to share their experiences and learn more about both cultures.
