Inter-Americano: Promoting Brazil-US Relations in Curitiba for 70 Years
Curitiba | November 10, 2011
T.J. Dowling, Consul, Director of the Public Affairs Section at the U.S. Consulate General in São Paulo, and e Mr. Clarício Casagrande, President of Inter Americano, Curitiba Binational Center.
In 1941, a few prescient citizens of Curitiba looked for a way to extend relations between the United States and Brazil on a very personal basis. Last week on November 10, President Claricio Casagrande welcomed some 400 sons and daughters of those founding members of the Centro Cultural Brazil-Estados Unidos de Curitiba to a dinner celebrating its 70 years in partnership with the Consulate, Embassy and people of the United States. In presenting a commemorative plaque to Inter Americano, Sao Paulo PAO TJ Dowling spoke about this long term and continuing relationship that has been enhanced by countless English language training programs and artistic and cultural events, sponsored by the consulate. “The plaque,” he said, “may appear small but the spirit of friendship it represents is great and always growing.” The Consulate looks forward sharing our cultures at least for another 70 years.
